Safely in Your Workplace?

Using hand tools and power tools should be very careful to avoid dangerous accident. As well as power tools simple hand tools like screwdrivers, hammers, chisels, wrenches, shears and knives may dangerous as power tools if they are used incorrectly.


There are several hand tool safety rules you should follow to keep you safe when using hand tools. Hand tool safety should be taught at safety meetings to all employees. There is going to be at least one time during you life that you will need to use a hand tool. It is better to know the correct and safe way to use it rather than risk an injury.

Keeping safe our worker and equipment in  workplace  we need to   handle carefully  following Hand Tools: 

Electrical Tools 

Pneumatic Tools, Power & Circular, Saws, Cartridge, Assisted Tools, Abrasive, Wheels, Vibrating Tools

When using ELECTRICAL tools, check:

The tool and leads are in good conditions?
ØEquipment is used with safety switch?
ØThe casing is not damaged, cracked or missing?
ØThat guards supplied with the equipment has not been removed?
ØThe correct and appropriate attachments for the tool is used?

When using PNEUMATIC tools, check:

ØAll hoses are uncoiled and protected from damage?

ØThe components are correctly installed & attached     
    securely to each other?

ØNo other workers are in the work vicinity?

ØObservation of safe work practices and exclusion zones?


ØCorrect personal protective equipment is worn? Eg. Had 

        hat, safety tools, and hearing protectors?

When using POWER & CIRCULAR saws, check:

ØAll leads are kept well away from the working surface?

ØThe components are correctly installed and working as   
   designed to?

ØThe guard supplied are in place?

ØObservation of safe work practices and exclusion zones?

ØCorrect personal protective equipment is being worn? Eg
   Hat, boots, hearing protectors, and dust musk?

If using CARTRIDGE ASSISTED tools, check:

ØThe tool has been serviced and is in good condition?
ØThe correct cartridges are used for the work in hand?
ØNo other worker is in the vicinity?
ØObservation of safe work practices and exclusion zones?
ØCorrect personal protective equipment is worn during 
    use?

If using ABRASIVE WHEELS, check:

ØThe has been service and is in good conditions?

ØThe correct abrasive wheel are used for work in hand?

ØLocal dust extraction is available if possible

ØObservation of safe work practices and exclusion zones?

ØCorrect personal protective equipment is worn 

   during work?

ØThe wheels are securely fastened?

When using VIBRATING tools, check:

ØFor information and training about the risks from hand- 
   arm vibration (HAV) on site, and what to do to avoid 
   these risks?

ØFor proper exposure time when using vibrating tool such 
    as concrete breakers, angle grinders, hammer drills, jack 
    hammers etc?

ØIf there are reduced-vibration tools that can be used 
    wherever possible?

ØThat the vibrating tools are in good condition?

ØIf there is anti-vibration gloves available to use?
