Construction High Risk Activities Handling Smart Guide

How Handle Construction High Risk Activities Smart Guide?

A number of workplaces are familiar to pretence a high level of risk to the health and safety for workers and other people. These activities are specifically need to regulate under significant group of personnel of the organization and certain activities require the worker performing the task to be licensed by government presided institute.

Demolition is high reach arm is another traditional method of demolition. The threshold for defining a high reach demolition is when it reaches a height of more than 20 meters. This method is usually formed by a base machine (excavator, tank, engine, counterweights), a demolition arm consisting of three sections or by a telescopic boom and a primary tool attached to the base machine (crushers, shears, hammers). High reach demolition machines can be equipped with different tools to make them suitable for executing demolitions of structures

Dangerous goods are materials or items with hazardous properties which, if not properly controlled, present a potential hazard to human health and safety, infrastructure and/ or their means of transport. The transportation of dangerous goods should control and governed by standard regulatory regimes.

Employers are required to identify and evaluate the respiratory hazardous substances in their workplaces. Various types of Occupational Exposure Limits have been established by organizations on chemical hazards and toxic substances.

Most people think that sparks and arcs are the most dangerous aspects of welding because they call attention to themselves, but they are only one risk. The brightness of the sparks, with their strong UV light, can cause cancer in unprotected eyes and skin.

When DEMOLATING structures, check:

ØAre the right tools or machinery being used for the job?
ØAre all dangerous parts guarded eg. Gears, Chains drives, Projecting engine shafts?
ØAre guards secured and in good repairs?
ØAre tools and machinery maintained good repair and are all safety devices operating correctly?
ØAre all operators trained and competent?

When dealing with ELECTRICITY, check:

ØAll underground services are marked on the ground and protected from damage?
ØYou dig by hand to locate the services and then you can continue with mechanical digging?
ØAre cables, leads and other services protected from damage?
ØHave hearing protective zones been marked?
ØHave tools and equipment been checked regularly and in good condition?
ØThat overhead power lines supply is turned off or other precautions been taken?

If using DANGEROUS GOODS, check:

ØIs there any dangerous goods, eg. Radioactive, flammable gas & liquids, chemicals etc. on site?
ØYou have had specific training when using any dangerous goods?
ØWhat personal protective equipment, eg. Gloves, hats, overalls, boots, and any badges i.e. radiation you need when handling and using any dangerous goods?
ØWhere is the nearest First Aid location?
ØThe emergency procedures in case of accidents?

If using HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES, check:

ØIf there any hazardous substance on site, eg asbestos, lead, solvents, paints, cement and dust?
ØDo you need specific training when using hazardous substances?
ØWhat personal protective equipment, eg gloves, hats, overalls, boots, eye protectors etc. do you need when using the hazardous substances?
ØWhere is the nearest First Aid location?
ØThe emergency procedures in case of accidents?

When doing WELDING activities, check:

ØIs there any flammable materials nearby, eg paper, cloths, gas bottles and flammable liquids?
ØYou have specific training when welding?
ØYou are using appropriate personal protective equipment, eg gloves, visors, overalls, boots etc?
ØIsolate others workers by using screen & barriers?
ØThere is adequate ventilation of local exhaust system in place?
ØThe emergency procedures in case of accident?

  1. One should get the safety course while working at the construction site. Bloodborne Pathogen Safety in the Workplace so that you can work safely at the consturction site.
